La maturazione scheletrica per la valutazione dell'età cronologica

Abstract di una relazione di Ivan Nicoletti al convegno Agestimation, Università di Macerata, 2007

An introduction concerned with the early studies of skeletal maturation and of bone age is followed by a review of the most widely applied techniques for determining the degree of skeletal maturation and bone age developed from the 1930’s onward. These techniques are grouped as follows: 1) Atlas Techniques; 2) Bone-specific Scoring Techniques; and 3) Individual Profile Maturity Techniques. Discussion deals with the principle methods using one of these three techniques, including critical observations, and with the possibility and advisability of adapting them to the specific population to be examined. Brief conclusions present considerations and rules to be borne in mind in order to make effective use, in auxology and in forensic medicine, of the methods examined, especially in estimating chronological age during growth.
